Tinubu Is a Political Genius — We Tried to Stop Him, But Failed, Says Ex-PDP Chairman Dan Ulasi
Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a master political strategist, acknowledging that multiple efforts to stop him in the past proved futile.
Speaking during a live appearance on AIT’s Kakaaki programme, Ulasi recounted how Tinubu, during his tenure as Lagos State Governor from 1999 to 2007, withstood intense political pressure from the PDP and even then-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
“There was nothing Obasanjo didn’t do,” Ulasi said. “We took some South-West states, but Lagos was untouchable. Tinubu stood firm for all eight years.”
Ulasi, who also served as the South-East Director for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, revealed he had warned his team about Tinubu’s strength but was ignored. “I told them Tinubu is not someone you just push aside. They didn’t listen. Now he’s the President,” he stated.
Reflecting on the PDP’s current struggles, Ulasi called for urgent internal reforms if the party hopes to challenge Tinubu or the APC in the 2027 elections. He admitted that the PDP, which ruled Nigeria for 16 years, is still grappling with its role in the opposition.
“We weren’t prepared for opposition politics. We came into power straight from formation in 1999, and now, the lack of that experience is showing,” he concluded.
