Tinubu Supporters Begin Early Campaign with Branded Plantain Chips Ahead of 2027 Elections
A viral video has revealed an unusual grassroots campaign initiative involving branded plantain chips, allegedly linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The video, circulating on social media, shows containers of plantain chips boldly labelled “Jagaban 2027 Door 2 Door Movement” indicating the launch of an early door-to-door mobilization effort for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The move has sparked widespread debate online, with many Nigerians questioning the seriousness and timing of such a promotional strategy more than a year before the election season formally begins.
In the clip, the man behind the snack production clarifies that he is not politically affiliated and was only contracted to supply the items. “They gave me a contract; I’m not campaigning for anybody. It’s about the money,” he stated.
This development comes as major opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and David Mark, form a powerful political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), nominating David Mark as protem national chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as secretary.
The opposition is strategizing to mount a formidable challenge to the ruling APC in the 2027 elections.
The launch of branded snacks by Tinubu’s alleged supporters has been interpreted by analysts as a symbolic move to reclaim narrative dominance amid rising opposition momentum.
“Na contract they give me. I’m not campaigning for anybody. It’s the money they will pay me,” the supplier emphasized in the now-viral video, distancing himself from the political implications.
