Tinubu vs Atiku: APC Chieftain Afegbua Urges North to Allow South Complete Eight Years in Power Before 2027 Elections

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kassim Afegbua, has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding the 2027 presidential elections, advocating that the North should permit the Southern region to complete its eight years in power before seeking the presidency again.

Afegbua’s remarks come amidst claims by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume that the North should not contest against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The APC chieftain criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for abandoning its constitutional provisions on power rotation during the 2023 elections, specifically by fielding Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate.

Afegbua emphasized that the South must be allowed to complete its eight years in power, after which the North can then vie for the presidency, stressing the importance of adhering to the principles of power rotation.

His comments have sparked a renewed discussion on the future of Nigeria’s political landscape and the prospects of the 2027 elections.
