Tinubu’s Silence Weakens Nigeria, Baba-Ahmed Warns Over Trump’s Threat

Former Presidential Adviser Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has called on President Bola Tinubu to personally address the nation following the recent threat by former U.S. President Donald Trump to deploy American forces to Nigeria.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed expressed concern over the president’s silence, describing it as troubling and capable of sending the wrong message about Nigeria’s leadership.

“If President Tinubu truly has capable advisers and understands the weight of his office, he should have spoken to Nigerians by now,” Baba-Ahmed said. “This is not the time for ministers or aides to issue statements. The President himself should reassure the country, clarify our position, and outline the steps his administration intends to take. Our silence makes us appear weak and without direction.”

He also advised Tinubu against traveling to the United States to meet with Trump, saying such a move would only damage Nigeria’s global image.

“At this critical moment, Tinubu should not even think of going to America to meet Trump. It would only worsen Nigeria’s image — like receiving a slap and smiling in return,” he added.

Baba-Ahmed urged the president to act swiftly by appointing ambassadors, rebuilding Nigeria’s diplomatic presence, and addressing the nation directly to restore confidence at home and abroad.
