Tragedy at MFM Prayer City: Woman Found Dead in Suspected Suicide Case

A 41-year-old woman identified as Benita Lurk Ikuenobe was found dead on Friday morning inside the auditorium of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) Prayer City, located along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, in what appears to be a case of suicide.

The heartbreaking discovery was made by the church’s Chief Security Officer, Esiere Ekikere, after he received a distress call around 7:20 a.m. regarding an unresponsive individual lying on the auditorium floor.

Upon arrival, Ekikere found Benita motionless, with an empty bottle of a suspected poisonous substance, believed to be a well-known pesticide, lying beside her. Emergency services were alerted, and law enforcement officers were dispatched to the scene.

Police officers documented the incident with photographs and later moved the body to the Real Divine Hospital mortuary for autopsy and further investigation.

However, when contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, emphasized that the actual cause of death is yet to be confirmed. She stated that while the incident is being widely discussed, the police have not concluded whether it was indeed a suicide.

“It is a negative impression people are circulating around the state. The police are yet to establish her actual cause of death,” Odutola noted, adding that no family would want such a sensitive matter linked to their loved one without verified details.

As investigations continue, the incident has sparked concern and renewed calls for mental health awareness and spiritual community support within places of worship.
