Tragedy in Abuja: Ghanaian Woman Dies After One-Chance Robbers Throw Her from Moving Vehicle

A Ghanaian woman, Miss Freda Arnong, has tragically lost her life after falling victim to a notorious “one-chance” robbery gang in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory.

According to eyewitness accounts, Freda was returning from a church fellowship near the CBN Institute in Maitama on the evening of July 1st, 2025, when she boarded what she believed to be a regular taxi. Unbeknownst to her, the vehicle was operated by criminals.

Once inside, Freda was blindfolded, physically assaulted, and coerced into unlocking her phone and granting the robbers access to her banking applications. Despite pleading with the attackers and offering to contact her employer for assistance, the gang threatened to kill her.

She was later thrown out of the moving vehicle near Moshood Abiola Stadium around 11 p.m.

A nearby vigilante group found her severely injured and rushed her to the National Hospital, Abuja, where she succumbed to multiple internal injuries days later. Medical reports confirmed that Freda suffered broken ribs and organ damage.

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has condemned the gruesome incident, describing Freda as a long-time supporter of human rights and a kind-hearted, God-fearing individual.

Freda’s tragic death is one of many involving the “one-chance” syndicates that have plagued Abuja for years. Victims are often robbed, assaulted, and in some cases, killed, with little to no accountability.

“This must not be another forgotten case,” Onwubiko emphasized. “Freda must not die in vain. Her killers must be found and prosecuted. Abuja must become safe for all.”
