Tragedy in Benin City: Teen Kills Friend During Money Dispute

A 14-year-old boy, identified as Prosper, has allegedly stabbed his friend, Osamede Osagbovo, to death during a dispute over money in Ramat Park, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City.

The tragic incident occurred while the teenagers were working as touts, helping passengers with luggage and collecting fares from motorists.

Reports indicate that Prosper and Osamede had just earned N2,000 from their day’s work. A disagreement reportedly arose when Prosper refused to split the money equally, claiming he had worked harder than his friend. The argument escalated into a physical confrontation.

Eyewitnesses said that during the scuffle, Prosper allegedly ran to a nearby spot, grabbed a bottle, and stabbed Osamede.

The victim reportedly collapsed and died instantly, before any medical assistance could arrive. Bystanders were shocked and unable to prevent the tragedy.

Authorities from the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), on routine patrol in the area, quickly intervened. The Corps apprehended Prosper and handed him over to the police for further investigation.

Confirming the arrest, ESSC Deputy Commander Richard Balogun said the suspect had been transferred to police custody for investigation and prosecution.

Officials are now examining the incident to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal stabbing.
