Tragedy in Benue: Elderly Man Loses Family and Livelihood to Herdsmen Attack
A harrowing incident has emerged from Benue State as an elderly man breaks down in tears after surviving a brutal attack by Fulani herdsmen that claimed the lives of his family and destroyed his farmland.
In a viral video shared by @ChuksericE on X, the traumatized man recounted how the assailants killed his loved ones and razed the crops that sustained his family, leaving over 200 people in his extended family homeless and struggling to survive.
He said:
“Fulani herdsmen killed my people and destroyed the crops and farmland that my family depended on for food. Now we have nothing left to eat. I live in a family house in the village which has now become a camp. There are more than 200 people staying there, all from the same family.”
Visibly shaken, he explained that daily survival has become a struggle, with no food, no home, and no clear path to rebuild their lives after losing both loved ones and livelihood.
The video has evoked emotional reactions nationwide, with many Nigerians expressing outrage and sympathy. One commentator wrote, “This is too heartbreaking. How can one family face this much pain?” Another added, “Over 200 people displaced? Benue needs urgent intervention.”
The elderly man’s plea highlights the urgent need for relief support and stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities across Benue and other affected regions.
