Plateau State is grieving the loss of two people following a tragic railway accident at Phototek Junction in the Abattoir community, Jos South Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when a passenger train traveling from Bukuru to Jos collided with a tricycle that attempted to cross the railway tracks. A tricycle rider and a passenger lost their lives, while others were injured.
In a statement, Plateau State Commissioner for Transportation, Davou Gyang, described the accident as a painful reminder of the importance of strict adherence to traffic rules and railway safety. He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
“The loss of life in this accident is deeply saddening. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this difficult time,” the statement read.
Commissioner Gyang added that the Ministry is working closely with the Nigerian Railway Corporation and other relevant agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
He also appealed to motorists, tricycle operators, and pedestrians to always follow safety signs and signals at railway crossings, emphasizing that negligence endangers lives.
