Train Compartment Detaches Mid-Motion on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Causing Panic

Panic erupted Thursday morning after a train compartment detached in motion along the Ladipo section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, disrupting traffic and alarming commuters. The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. and lasted for over 30 minutes.

The train, which was traveling from Ogba Ayo in Ogun State to Apapa in Lagos, lost its rear compartment mid-journey. Eyewitness Oloruntoba Omodele reported that the detachment startled passengers and nearby commuters but fortunately caused no injuries or fatalities.

“All the passengers were taken aback, but thankfully, no lives were lost,” he said.

The Ladipo axis, notorious for its traffic congestion and history of accidents, saw heavy disruptions as emergency responders worked quickly to secure the area and restore order.

While officials have yet to comment on the exact cause of the mechanical failure, the incident has raised new concerns over rail safety in densely populated zones.

Observers are calling for a full investigation and urgent upgrades to Nigeria’s aging rail infrastructure.
