Troops React: Nigerian Army Debunks Viral Claim Over Kogi Rescue Pictures

The Nigerian Army has dismissed viral claims alleging that photos from its recent rescue mission in Kogi State were taken months ago.

In a statement released on Tuesday by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, the Army described the reports as “entirely false and misleading.”

Abdullahi clarified that the images were captured during the actual rescue mission conducted on November 2, 2025, at Achigili Forest, where troops from Forward Operating Base Oguma successfully freed two kidnapped victims and recovered ransom money.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the attached photographs contain verifiable geolocation data confirming they were taken at the precise location of the operation,” the statement read.

The Army emphasized that all photos and footage released by the military undergo a strict approval and verification process before publication.

“The Nigerian Army maintains the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability in its media engagements,” Abdullahi said.

He further described the online allegations as an attempt by “mischief makers” to discredit the genuine efforts of the military in ensuring peace and security in Kogi State.
