Trump Labels Russian, Indian Economies ‘Dead’, Warns Medvedev Is Treading on ‘Dangerous Territory’
U.S. President Donald Trump has stirred global attention with a fiery message on his Truth Social platform, where he described both the Russian and Indian economies as “dead,” while warning that former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is entering “very dangerous territory.”
Trump’s remarks came amid U.S. plans to impose new tariffs on India, with the president criticizing the country’s trade policies and continued military and energy relations with Russia.
“I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care,” Trump posted. He added that both countries do minimal business with the U.S. due to high tariffs and trade barriers.
Trump also took a direct jab at Medvedev, saying: “Let’s keep it that way, and tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory.”
The post appears to be in response to Medvedev’s comments on social media, where he warned the U.S. that further ultimatums regarding the war in Ukraine could lead to direct conflict—not just with Ukraine, but with America itself.
“Trump’s playing the ultimatum game with Russia: 50 days or 10. He should remember 2 things: Russia isn’t Israel or even Iran… Each new ultimatum is a step toward war,” Medvedev wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Trump followed up by threatening to impose a 25% tariff on all Indian imports, citing what he called excessive tariffs and trade barriers.
“India is our friend, but we have done relatively little business with them because their tariffs are far too high among the highest in the world. They also maintain the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary trade barriers,” Trump said.
He criticized India’s long-standing energy and defense partnerships with Russia, saying, “They have always bought the vast majority of their military equipment from Russia, and are Russia’s largest buyer of energy at a time when everyone wants Russia to stop the killing in Ukraine.”
