Turkey Warns Nigeria: Fethullah Organisation Still Active Under Guise of Humanitarian Aid

Turkey’s government has issued a stark warning about the ongoing activities of the Fethullah Terrorist Organisation (FETO) in Nigeria, cautioning that the group, designated as a global terrorist entity by Ankara and several international bodies, is intensifying its operations under the cover of humanitarian aid, education, healthcare, and interfaith dialogue.

Speaking during a dinner in Abuja marking Turkey’s Democracy and National Unity Day the anniversary of the foiled July 15, 2016, coup Mehmet Poroy, Turkey’s Ambassador-designate to Nigeria, alerted Nigerian authorities and the public to remain vigilant.

He stressed that, despite ongoing global crackdowns, FETO continues to pose a significant security threat wherever it operates, especially through institutions presenting themselves as charities or educational and healthcare providers.

The Turkish government holds FETO responsible for the 2016 failed military coup, in which at least 251 people were killed.

Since then, Turkish authorities have launched a determined effort to track, arrest, and prosecute the group’s members globally, resulting in the closure or transfer of hundreds of affiliated schools and organisations
