US Lawmaker Backs Trump’s Nigeria Stand, Slams China Over Interference
A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has condemned China for warning Washington against a proposed military intervention in Nigeria, insisting that Beijing has no right to dictate America’s foreign policy.
In a post on his X handle on Tuesday, Moore expressed full support for President Donald Trump’s position on defending Christians in Nigeria, describing the U.S. as having a moral duty to protect religious freedom across the world.
“President Trump is absolutely right to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering horrific persecution and even martyrdom for their faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,” Moore wrote.
He also criticized China’s human rights record, accusing Beijing of hypocrisy for attempting to lecture the U.S. on global affairs. “China will not dictate our foreign policy to us, and we will not be lectured by a Communist autocracy that recently arrested 30 Christian pastors and throws ethnic minorities into concentration camps,” he added.
His comments came after reports that China had warned the U.S. against interfering in Nigeria’s internal affairs, following Trump’s threat of direct military action to protect Christian communities facing violent attacks.
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, stated during a press conference that Beijing “firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading its people on a development path that fits its national realities,” warning Washington to avoid using religion or human rights as excuses for interference.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Federal Government has urged Trump to respect the country’s sovereignty and refrain from any military intervention, emphasizing that security challenges within its borders are being handled internally.
