Vice President Kashim Shettima Chairs National Economic Council Meeting in Abuja
Abuja, Nigeria — Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday chaired the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The gathering brought together several state governors and key economic stakeholders to deliberate on critical national economic issues.
Among the attendees were the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, and the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, along with governors from Zamfara, Jigawa, Lagos, Anambra, Gombe, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Benue, and Ondo States. Rivers State was represented by its Sole Administrator.
The NEC meeting coincided with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s return to Abuja following a state visit to Brazil.
Discussions highlighted economic strategies for the 2025 fiscal year budgetary proposals from various states and other pressing national economic concerns aimed at promoting sustainable development.
Vice President Shettima emphasized the importance of collaborative governance and sound economic policies in ensuring Nigeria’s growth and prosperity.
The NEC being the highest economic policy-making body in Nigeria, plays a crucial role in coordinating fiscal matters between the federal government and states.
This meeting marks a continued effort by the Nigerian government to foster economic stability and address developmental challenges through inclusive and strategic engagements.
