“We Deserve Self-Control Allowance” — Ghanaian Teacher Sparks Outrage Over Viral Plea About Female Students
A Ghanaian teacher has caused a stir online after publicly appealing to the Minister of Education to introduce a “self-control allowance” for male teachers, claiming it’s increasingly difficult to focus while teaching attractive female students.
In a viral video shared by user @mayfred on X (formerly Twitter), the teacher humorously complained that female students have become “too fine and tempting,” making self-restraint a challenge for male educators. He said, “Minister of Education, I speak for my colleagues we teachers deserve a self-control allowance. These young girls nowadays are irresistible. Imagine being a teacher without self-control; will you just let them go like that?”
While the teacher’s tone appeared light-hearted, his statement immediately drew widespread criticism and debate across social media platforms in Ghana and Nigeria. Some users found the comments humorous and relatable, while others condemned them as highly unprofessional and inappropriate for someone in a position of authority over minors.
One commenter wrote, “Na discipline allowance you need, not self-control allowance,” while another remarked, “This man just said what many are thinking but won’t dare to say.” Others, however, expressed concern that such jokes trivialize sexual misconduct and reinforce the need for stronger ethical training among teachers.
The clip continues to trend online, with many calling on educational authorities to investigate the matter. Some defenders of the teacher insist he was only joking to highlight the daily challenges male educators face in maintaining professionalism, while critics argue that his remarks expose a deeper problem within the education system.
The debate has reignited broader conversations on teacher ethics, classroom discipline, and how educators should navigate boundaries in modern schools.
