What FG is doing to improve Police welfare – NPTF boss

The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), Mohammed Sheidu, has outlined the Federal Government’s efforts to improve the welfare and operational efficiency of the Nigerian Police Force.Key initiatives include renovating and constructing housing for officers, transitioning police vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and equipping stations and barracks with solar power to cut costs and promote sustainability.During an interactive session with senior journalists in Abuja, Sheidu highlighted recent achievements, such as training 1,000 officers within 100 days, signing agreements with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) for alternative energy, and collaborating with the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG) for vehicle conversions.

Efforts are also underway to partner with the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) to establish agricultural clusters for food security and improve healthcare facilities for officers and their dependents.

Sheidu emphasized that the NPTF’s broader goal is to reposition the police force as a respected and attractive institution. He commended Inspector-General Dr. Kayode Egbetokun for his support and urged the media to amplify the Trust Fund’s efforts, fostering transparency and collaboration with private and public sector partners.

“Our mandate is to ensure police officers are equipped to protect lives and property while enhancing their welfare, morale, and professionalism,” Sheidu said.
