Why Yemi Solade Walked Away from Church Life Over Ten Years Ago
Veteran Nollywood actor, Yemi Solade, has opened up on why he stopped attending church, a decision he made in 2013.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Solade revealed that church life became a burden, interfering with his career and disrupting his peace of mind.
He recalled a defining moment when church leaders asked him to reject film jobs scheduled for Sundays, which he felt was unrealistic.
“If you see me in a church, it’s either we are filming. Something happened in my church that year, 2013. I got into the church with my wife, and I was told to tell producers not to call me for work on Sundays.
I sepe’d for the Pastor. It is from that thing you said I shouldn’t do on Sunday that I put hand in my pocket and I drop here,” Solade explained.
The actor dismissed the belief that life deteriorates without regular church attendance. Instead, he said his life has been stable and more peaceful since he stopped going.
“A notion that if you don’t attend church, one’s life will nosedive I have not seen anything change. Rather, I have peace, I do well, because every day of my life when I was going to church, I got messages, all sorts of disturbances,” he said.
Solade added that constant church activities were eating into his career and personal time.
“If you are not invited to one committee… When will I have time to work?” he asked.
His remarks have sparked fresh debates online about balancing religious obligations with personal freedom.
