Wike-Aligned PDP Bloc Sets Roadmap for State and National Elections
The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has announced plans to hold state congresses and a national convention to elect party officials at both state and national levels.
Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, chairman of the factional Board of Trustees (BoT), revealed the development on Sunday during the BoT’s opening session at Wike’s official residence in Life Camp, Abuja.
Ohuabunwa said the faction is working to reorganise PDP structures in states affected by internal crises through the formation of caretaker committees ahead of the congresses and the national convention.
“These initiatives aim to build trust, strengthen party structures, and ensure the PDP remains a model of fairness and inclusiveness within Nigeria’s democratic space,” he said.
He stressed that the BoT would support the factional National Working Committee (NWC), led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, to ensure party activities are conducted according to the law and party guidelines.
“As provided in the PDP constitution, the BoT has a moral responsibility to stabilise the party, safeguard its principles, and steer it away from divisive tendencies,” Ohuabunwa added.
The Wike faction’s planned convention comes amid ongoing disputes within the PDP, including a rival national convention held in Ibadan by a bloc aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, which elected Turaki Taminu as the party’s national chairman. The Ibadan convention was held under conflicting court orders, and the Wike faction is currently seeking a court order to nullify the event.
Ohuabunwa called on PDP members to consolidate ongoing reforms, deepen unity, and ensure the party emerges stronger ahead of upcoming political contests.
