Wike Denies Alleged Land Allocation to Sons, Dismisses Claims as Smear Campaign
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has broken his silence regarding allegations that he allocated prime Abuja land to his sons, insisting that his children, like every other Nigerian, have the right to own land in the country.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Wike addressed the viral reports suggesting he awarded plots in Maitama and Asokoro two of Abuja’s most exclusive districts to his sons through JOAQ Farms and Estates Limited and another entity linked to his son Jordan. The reports claimed the allocations amounted to 3,822 hectares valued at over \$6.45 billion.
Wike vehemently denied the allegations, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.
“Assuming, though not conceding, that my children applied for land are they not Nigerians? Are they Ghanaians?” he questioned. “This is nothing but a smear campaign, and I know where it’s coming from Adamawa State.”
Challenging the feasibility of the claims, the FCT Minister called for concrete evidence.
“Calculate land in Maitama and Asokoro and show me where you will find 2,000 hectares. It’s laughable. Bring the documents, bring empirical evidence,” he said.
He labeled the entire narrative as “rubbish,” stressing that the alleged land size doesn’t even exist within those high-brow districts.
The allegations, which surfaced online, have stirred public discourse amid growing concerns about land transparency and political influence in Abuja. Wike, however, maintains that the accusations are a coordinated effort to undermine his credibility and distract from his work in the FCT.
