Wike Flags Danger for Adeleke, Sparks Unease in Osun PDP
Tensions have escalated within the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following comments by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, questioning the party’s preparedness for the upcoming governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti States.
In a televised interview on Monday, Wike warned that internal divisions could undermine the party’s prospects in next year’s polls, intensifying concerns over lingering leadership disputes.
The minister also revealed that Governor Adeleke personally met with him to discuss the situation. Wike reportedly cautioned the governor about the political risks he faces:
“Ask the governor of Osun, Adeleke. He came to see me, and I told him, ‘You are in danger.’ I don’t like people who are not truthful. Ask the dancing governor if I never called him to say, do you see the implication, do you see the danger you are running into?’”
Wike criticized what he described as overconfidence among some governors, suggesting that believing they could “do it all” without addressing structural issues within the party could be risky.
The remarks reportedly caused unease among Osun PDP members, with party chieftain Adewale Adegbite noting that Wike’s comments could impact Adeleke’s re-election campaign. However, the PDP’s Director of Media in Osun, Oladele Olabamji, dismissed fears of a crisis, assuring that the governor’s nomination process remains on track and will proceed smoothly.
