Wisconsin Supreme Court Elects Susan Crawford, Preserving Liberal Majority.

In a significant victory for the Democratic side, Wisconsin voters elected Susan Crawford to the state Supreme Court, ensuring a continuation of the court’s 4-3 liberal majority.

This outcome poses a challenge for President Donald Trump and his wealthy supporter Elon Musk, who had backed Crawford’s conservative opponent, Brad Schimel.

The election was viewed as an early barometer of Trump’s presidency and became the most expensive judicial race in U.S. history, with over $90 million spent by candidates, state parties, and various external groups.

Crawford, a county judge, ultimately defeated Schimel, a former Republican state attorney general, with a lead of 55% to 45%, amounting to roughly 178,000 votes.

Political organizations connected to Musk invested more than $21 million in support of Schimel. In her victory speech, Crawford highlighted the race as a contest against an influential billionaire: “As a little girl growing up in Chippewa Falls, I never imagined I would be taking on the richest man in the world for justice and Wisconsin. And we won.”
