Wizkid Makes History as First African Artist to Surpass 9 Billion Spotify Streams

Nigerian music sensation Ayodeji Balogun, better known as Wizkid, has achieved a groundbreaking feat by becoming the first African artist to cross 9 billion streams on Spotify across all credited works.

This historic milestone solidifies his position as a global music powerhouse and a leading force in the worldwide Afrobeats movement.

At the heart of this accomplishment is his 2016 mega-hit “One Dance,” a collaboration with Drake and Kyla, which alone has racked up 3.7 billion streams and previously earned a Guinness World Record as the first song to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify.

His solo success is also evident in the Tems-assisted track “Essence,” which boasts over 303 million streams and has become an anthem for Afrobeats lovers worldwide.

While American superstar Taylor Swift holds the overall streaming crown with over 1.5 billion streams, Wizkid’s record-setting achievement places him in an elite class of global artists and marks a new era for African music on the world stage.
