Wumi Toriola Retracts Comments After Backlash Over Clash With Afeez Owo
Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has reversed her stance after facing widespread criticism for her outburst against veteran actor Afeez Owo, the husband of actress Mide Martins.
The controversy started when Afeez, during an interview, was asked about his relationship with Toriola and whether her movie roles reflect her real-life personality. He responded by describing her as someone who generally remains calm but reacts strongly when provoked.
Toriola, however, did not take kindly to the remark. She fired back on social media, questioning whether she should “rent a husband to hold a microphone and cause problems.” While she admitted to respecting him, she accused Afeez of engaging in unnecessary drama despite his seniority in the industry.
Her reaction quickly drew criticism from fans and industry colleagues, many of whom argued that she had only validated Afeez’s description of her character.
Following the backlash, the actress softened her tone. In a video posted from inside an airplane, she referred to herself as “a repentant child,” thanking those who called her out and assuring her followers that it was “still all love.”
“The face of a repentant child. Thank you all for the backlash. Omo ta ba fe lan bawi [we correct a child only because we love her],” she captioned the clip.
