“You Must Apologize to Nigerians” — Deputy Senate President Fires Back at Trump
A viral video has shown Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, condemning U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threats toward Nigeria, sparking widespread reactions online.
In the footage, Jibrin described Trump’s comments as “unacceptable” and demanded an immediate apology to Nigerians.
“For the President of the United States to say, ‘You are doing this, we are going to attack you,’ is quite unacceptable. He should retract that statement and apologise to Nigerians,” Jibrin said.
He emphasized that Nigeria would not yield to intimidation or external pressure, urging the U.S. to respect international law and pursue any grievances through diplomatic channels rather than military threats.
“Whatever you feel about our country, follow the legal route. Go to the United Nations,” he stated.
Expressing disbelief at Trump’s stance, Jibrin added, “I still can’t believe such a statement would come from the President of the United States. We are not scared of Trump we will tell him the truth. The route he has taken is not the best.”
Trump had earlier designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern,” citing alleged persecution of Christians.
He warned that if the Nigerian government failed to act, the U.S. could cut aid and prepare its Department of War for possible intervention.
