YouTuber Questions Nigerians’ Priorities After Spotting Tesla Cybertruck in Ibadan Village
Nigerian travel blogger and YouTuber, Steve Ndukwu, has sparked conversations online after expressing shock at sighting a Tesla Cybertruck parked in a village in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Ndukwu, known for his international travel documentaries, said he was stunned to see such a luxury electric vehicle in a rural community that still lacks basic infrastructure like stable electricity, good roads, and charging stations.
Sharing his experience on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote:
“Nigerians will import luxury before infrastructure. No stable electricity, no charging stations, terrible roads, but somehow a Cybertruck is chilling at a backyard in someone’s village in Ibadan. Priorities on premium madness 🤣.”
The post quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from Nigerians. While many agreed with his point on misplaced priorities, others argued that anyone wealthy enough to import a Cybertruck could also afford private power solutions.
One user, @compoundinnaira, suggested:
“Maybe the guy has set up his own infrastructure? If someone can afford to bring this into Nigeria, they should be able to afford ₦20–30M for a good power wall and solar set up.”
Another, @zubidavies, warned about the economic implications:
“If we don’t quickly jumpstart our economy and industrialise, exchange rate will never come down. We’ll keep importing both luxuries and basics. Meanwhile, countries are phasing out fossil vehicles for EVs. Imagine if production shifts entirely—it’s scary.”
Others, however, shifted the blame to systemic issues. @ahsam254 noted:
“This is an individuality problem. People are just trying to make more money to escape bad leadership. But is he going to drive around with his own charger?”
The sighting of the Cybertruck in Ibadan has reignited debates about wealth, infrastructure, and the priorities of Nigeria’s elite.
