Yul Edochie Defends African Deities: “Traditional Gods Are Peaceful Unless Provoked”
Nollywood actor and newly public traditionalist, Yul Edochie, took to Instagram on July 3, 2025, to challenge long-held misconceptions about African deities. He stated with conviction.
“Contrary to all the lies they sold us for decades, deities are very peaceful. They will never look for your trouble if you don’t look for theirs.”
Over the past year, Edochie has embraced traditional spirituality. He founded the “True Salvation Ministry,” blending ancestral worship with moral teachings, and recently asserted that Christianity and traditional beliefs can coexist as expressions of the same divine reality.
His statements challenge deep-rooted colonial-era stereotypes that depict indigenous faiths as malevolent.
The actor’s growing advocacy reflects a rising movement among younger Nigerians reevaluating and reclaiming African spiritual identity. Supporters applauded him for confronting misinformation and encouraging cultural pride, while critics question his religious choices, accusing him of heresy or promoting confusion in spiritual belief.
Nigerians publicly debating and rediscovering indigenous religions. Edochie’s bold stance is seen by some as a catalyst for deeper cultural self-awareness and dialogue unclouded by imported narratives.
Yul Edochie is urging Nigerians to rethink misconceptions about traditional African spirituality, insisting that its deities are fundamentally peaceful and deserve respect not fear.
