Yul Edochie Urges South-East Presidency in 2027, Calls for Fairness and Equity

Popular Nollywood actor and former presidential aspirant, Yul Edochie, has called for Nigeria’s next president to emerge from the South-East region, reigniting discussions on zoning and regional equity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a video message posted on his official Instagram account, Edochie stated that it would only be fair and just for the South-East to produce the country’s next leader. His comments quickly stirred nationwide conversation, with social media users expressing both support and skepticism.

“The next president of Nigeria should come from the South East. In fairness and equity that’s just the truth and how it should be,” Edochie declared.

The actor-turned-politician, who had previously shown interest in contesting the presidency, stressed the need for Nigeria to uphold the principles of inclusion and regional balance in leadership. His remarks come at a time when political stakeholders are beginning to weigh in on zoning arrangements and potential candidates for the 2027 polls.

While some Nigerians hailed Edochie’s message as timely and courageous, others questioned the feasibility and political will to implement such a rotational policy in a complex political landscape.

The call for a South-East presidency has been a long-standing demand among Igbo leaders and civil society groups, who argue that the region has been marginalized in national leadership since the return to democratic rule in 1999.

As debates continue to mount, Yul Edochie’s voice adds to the growing chorus pushing for equity, justice, and balanced representation in Nigeria’s highest political office.
