Zamfara’s Emir of Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, Dies at 71

The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness. He died on Friday in Abuja, bringing to an end a decade-long reign marked by devotion to peace, development, and public service.

Dr. Bello, who became the 16th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, succeeded his late father and brought to the throne a wealth of experience from the civil service. Prior to his ascension, he served as Permanent Secretary in both the old Sokoto State and the newly created Zamfara State, earning respect for his commitment to public administration.

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, in a condolence message issued through his spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, expressed deep sorrow over the monarch’s death.

“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau,” the statement read.

The governor extended heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Gusau Emirate, the Emir’s immediate family, and the entire people of the state. He described the late monarch as a spiritual and cultural pillar whose reign fostered unity and growth across the region.

“His Highness’s passing is a huge loss for the people of Zamfara State, the North, and Nigeria at large. He led with wisdom, humility, and unwavering faith. I have lost a father and confidant. May Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus,” the governor concluded.

The news has drawn condolences from traditional rulers, political leaders, and citizens across the country, who recall the Emir’s legacy of service, dignity, and deep respect for tradition.
