Zlatan Laments Nigeria’s Economic Struggles: “We’re Suffering and Smiling”
Popular Nigerian rapper Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, better known as Zlatan Ibile, has expressed frustration over the worsening economic hardship in the country, blaming the Nigerian government for doing little to ease the suffering of citizens.
In an interview with British media personality Madame Joyce in the United Kingdom, the “Zanku (Leg Work)” hitmaker said Nigerians have become so accustomed to hardship that many now see it as normal.
“We are used to it suffering and smiling. That’s how it has always been, and the government isn’t doing anything about it,” Zlatan lamented.
The rapper’s remarks came in response to comments by British rapper Dave, who poked fun at Nigerians for their spending habits splurging in nightclubs while beggars struggle outside.
Zlatan said the situation reflects a deeper problem a country where citizens have learned to adapt to suffering while those in power remain indifferent to their plight.
“Even though the government has failed us, we must still find ways to survive and do better. It’s not every time we wait for help we need to help ourselves too,” he added.
Fans online have praised Zlatan for speaking the truth about the everyday struggles of Nigerians, while others described his statement as a call for both leadership accountability and self-reliance.
As one of Nigeria’s most outspoken artists, Zlatan continues to use his platform to highlight social issues and inspire young people to demand a better future.
