Let me reiterate our vision for development in the coming year.
First, in infrastructure and urban renewal: our administration is committed to complementing ongoing state government’s efforts to enhance economic and social infrastructure and improve the aesthetic appeal of Enugu city. By aligning local government projects with those of the state, we aim to achieve greater efficiency, leverage economies of scale, maximize resources and yield greater benefits for our people.
Aligned with the state government’s urban renewal drive and commitment to ensuring no road remains untarred in Enugu City, in the coming months, we will prioritize the construction, rehabilitation and beautification of existing roads, particularly in our urban communities.
The council will procure mini waste collection trucks to complement the efforts of ESWAMA in the area of waste collection and disposal. These initiatives form part of our comprehensive strategy to maintain a clean and aesthetically appealing Enugu City all year round.
The council will also support the state government’s efforts to expand electricity access in underserved urban communities. This will involve the procurement and installation of transformers in underserved areas.
Invest in vocational and digital literacy trainings related to a wide range of occupational fields including software development, greenhouse farming, digital content creation etc. to improve the employability of our youths.
Rehabilitate and re-equip existing healthcare centers, as well as already identified primary and secondary schools to guarantee improved service delivery in education and healthcare.
Deploy solar energy in selected tertiary institutions within Enugu North LGA. This initiative will empower students to engage in their academic activities without the limitations posed by unreliable power supply. By providing uninterrupted access to electricity in faculty buildings, students will be able to prepare for lectures, study for exams, and complete assignments at any time of the day, fostering a more conducive learning environment.
Security remains a central priority for our administration.
We are committed to strengthening the effectiveness of the Neighborhood Watch and Forest Guards systems, and ensuring that they meet the peculiar needs of our urban communities by reforming them into a formal Joint Community Services Unit whilst maintaining the independence of each arm. This joint unit will be dedicated to working in harmony to provide essential community services including security and environmental surveillance in residential areas, and traffic control in commercial areas to foster a safer environment for all.
We will procure security vehicles, advanced security gadgets, and deploy CCTV systems in key urban communities and commercial areas, complementing the state government’s efforts in surveillance and monitoring. A fully equipped control room will be set up at the council headquarters to ensure seamless security coordination across our 13 wards.
Deploy security personnel and apparatus to key government facilities, particularly the 13 smart schools and primary healthcare centers currently under construction by the state government.
Pilot a a dedicated 24/7 emergency hotline to enable prompt reporting of crimes, especially those in progress, ensuring swift response and coordination with security forces and enhanced safety for all our residents.
In Agriculture the council will
Collaborate with the state government to implement the farm estate program across the various wards of Enugu North LGA.
Invest in urban farming as a solution to the limited agricultural space in our urban environment. We will focus on the emerging, yet under-explored area of horticultural greenhouse farming, with an emphasis on scaling production and promoting growth within this sub-sector. This initiative will aim to reduce our reliance on other regions for horticultural crops, enhance food security, and create job opportunities for our women and youth.
As we move forward in our administration, we recognize the modest progress we have made together, yet mindful that this is only the beginning of a much larger vision. The work we understand that the work done so far is a foundation for the broader transformation that lies ahead. we take the opportunity once again to reassure our people that every step we take as an administration will be guided by the fundamental principles of transparency, accountability, and collective responsibility as we strive to build a local government that is not only economically viable but also a true model of good governance. Together, we will ensure that Enugu North LGA becomes a beacon of progress, prosperity, and sustainable growth in every sector. Indeed, our tomorrow is here.
represents the beginning of a transformative journey for Enugu North Local Government Area, one that is rooted in a vision for progress, inclusivity, and long-term sustainability. With a strategic focus on critical sectors such as infrastructure, security, healthcare, and governance, we are aligning with the larger vision of our dear Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in laying the foundation for a future that reflects the aspirations of our people. The successful realization of this vision will not only depend on the plans we have set forth but also on the active engagement, cooperation, and support of all our stakeholders, including our residents, businesses, and partners.
