EFCC receives refund of $760,910 from Abuja American International School for Yahaya Bello.

The American International School of Abuja has allegedly received $760,910.84 from the school fees deposited by Bello. Bello is being prosecuted for allegedly defrauding the Kogi State Government of N80.2 billion.

The payment made to the school is claimed to be stolen from the Kogi State Government coffers.

In August 2021, Bello allegedly deposited $845,852 school fees to the American International School of Abuja. The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has been ordered to appear in court on May 13, 2024.

The EFCC filed documents in court to support their case against Bello, claiming that the fees were meant to cover the education of four of his children in the school for a period of 14 years (2021–2035). Bello has denied the allegation and threatened to seek redress over the “defamatory” allegations.

“The American school refunded the school fees in two tranches. Initially, it returned $720,000 to the EFCC and later $40,910,” a top source in EFCC told told journalists.

“Following mutual agreement with the EFCC, the school decided to retain some fees (I think $84,942) for services rendered and refund $760,910”.
