ESUT Student Leader Holds Marathon Competition
By Chiekezie Emmanuel
The Chief Whip of the Student Union Government Senate, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Sen. Ike Moses, has organized a marathon race competition for the students of the school.
The competition, which took place on Friday at the Agbani main campus of the school, attracted the presence of many top student leaders at the national, zonal, and state levels.
Speaking with newsmen, Sen. Moses stated that this type of competition is the first of its kind in the school.
He explained that his source of motivation to host the ESUT Marathon Competition 2026 was to engage with the students and build a stronger relationship between the institution and the community.
According to him, “This is the first of its kind in this institution. For me, I organized it with some visions, which include encouraging a culture of well-being and fitness among my fellow students and youth, as well as building a relationship between them and the school. This is because students are also youths. The event was also organized to create awareness about the need for health, physical fitness, and activities that can aid the hygiene and well-being of the students, because when you build a community of determination, a community of focus, a community of wisdom, and readiness to participate in sports activities when the opportunity presents itself, it will enable the students of this great institution to compete globally.”
On the challenges of organizing such a massive event, Sen. Moses stated that finance was a major problem, as support was limited.
“Despite not having any financial support from management or the union, I embarked on the programme arrangement, and it was a success. Thank God for Prof. Ngwu, a lecturer in GST, who gave us massive support after aligning with our vision. He devoted his time to be with us at the programme, where he also delivered a welcome speech. We need to work with people who are ready to develop ideas, impact knowledge and wisdom, and give a creative image to the community,” he said.
Sen. Moses also urged the management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology to replicate this competition in the institution, while also pleading with the school management to approve it as an annual event.
Also, the winner of the competition, Comrade Chizuruoke Victor, who is also a star athlete in Enugu State, expressed his gratitude to the host, stating that it is a welcome development.
“I thank God I was in shape when the race was organized. Organizing more races would foster activeness for the development of student-athletes who yearn for support.”
