Hadin Kai Commander Assures Safety of Corps Members in Borno

The Nigerian military has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding National Youth Service Corps members serving in Borno State, as security conditions in the region continue to improve.

Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, gave the assurance on Friday when the Borno State NYSC Coordinator, Mallam Nasir Bello, paid a courtesy visit to the OPHK Headquarters in Maiduguri.

According to a statement released by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the command, Abubakar praised the long-standing cooperation between the military and the NYSC, stressing that the safe reopening of orientation camps in the state highlights the significant progress made in restoring stability.

He noted that the command remains fully committed to ensuring the welfare and protection of corps members, especially ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in Borno.

Abubakar emphasised that the NYSC is a critical pillar of national unity and development, and therefore deserves maximum support from all security stakeholders.

Responding, NYSC State Coordinator Nasir Bello expressed gratitude for the military’s continuous backing, describing the NYSC as a “baby of the Nigerian Army” due to its origins and long history of collaboration with the armed forces.

Bello explained that the visit was part of his efforts to formally introduce himself to the OPHK leadership following his assumption of office in April 2025.

He recalled that NYSC activities had previously been suspended in Borno due to insurgency but fully resumed after the marked improvement in security.

He appealed for sustained cooperation, noting that corps members deployed to the state rely heavily on military support for their safety.

The visit ended with the signing of the visitors’ register, the presentation of a souvenir by the Theatre Commander, and a group photograph to commemorate the engagement.
