On the occasion of International Youth Day 2023, Hon Nnolim Nnaji, Chairman of the House Committee on Port & Harbour, joined millions worldwide in celebrating the role of youths, especially those in Nigeria and Enugu State. In a resounding goodwill message, he emphasized the pivotal position of youths as the foundation and future of every society. He underscored that any nation aspiring for rapid development must conscientiously prioritize the welfare and education of its young population.
Addressing the youth community, Nnaji conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to Enugu State youths, particularly those hailing from the Nkanu East & West Federal Constituency. He hailed their considerable contributions to nation-building and their unrelenting advocacy for good governance and sustainable development, essential factors in the progress of the country and state.
The theme of this year’s International Youth Day, “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World,” resonated deeply with Nnaji. He viewed it as a clarion call to lawmakers and society at large to awaken to the importance of equipping youth with skills that promote sustainability and prosperity.
Recognizing the practical needs of youth, Nnaji highlighted key elements for fostering green skills among them. He stressed the necessity for accessible infrastructure, credit facilities, processing resources, and functional cooperative societies. He also underscored the importance of protective measures to support young entrepreneurs and investors in their pursuit of sustainable development.
“We, as lawmakers, must forge partnerships with these young visionaries to address challenges and cultivate Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World,” affirmed Nnaji.
