Mrs. Ugo Sokari-George, Public Affairs Officer for the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, expressed her overwhelming happiness about the Eastern Nigeria International Film Festival (ENIFF). In an exclusive interview with ESUT Monitor, Mrs. Sokari-George revealed her enthusiasm for the event and the Nigerian youths.
“Today’s event is truly wonderful,” she exclaimed. “The passion and desire to learn exhibited during the Impact Lab were electrifying. I’m envious because, growing up, I didn’t have the opportunity to experience a side event like this Impact Lab, created to benefit Nigerian youths.”
Mrs. Sokari-George emphasized the importance of using film to effect social change. “From what I’ve seen here today, I hope Nigerian youths in the creative industry have learned how to harness the power of film for positive impact.”
She praised the creativity and potential of Nigerian youths, stating, “I’m envious of Nigerian youths because, when I was growing up, I didn’t have this opportunity. From the pitches presented today and the passion I see in these young people, it’s clear that Nigerian youths are ready to unleash their creativity.”
Mrs. Sokari-George advised Nigerian students and youths to focus, take action, and leverage opportunities. “Don’t take your creativity for granted; don’t be shy. Bring yourself forward, and there will be opportunities to link up with.”
She concluded by emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange and cooperation. “Cinema is a fantastic opportunity to showcase, experience, and explore different cultures through film. Arts and culture are among the best interfaces for people-to-people conversations, especially for younger generations seeking outlets for personal and collective creative expression.”
The European Union’s collaboration with ENIFF has yielded great results, providing an interface for cultural exchange and cooperation. Mrs. Sokari-George expressed gratitude to the organizers of ENIFF for hosting the European Union Delegation Impact Lab.
