IGP Egbetokun Pledges Expanded Roles for Women in Nigerian Police Force

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has promised to enhance the representation of women officers in tactical, operational, and command positions across the Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday during a ceremony marking 70 years of women in policing, Egbetokun highlighted the force’s commitment to eliminating discrimination, harassment, and barriers to career advancement for female officers.

He lauded the courage and professionalism of pioneering women officers who, despite initial limitations, set high standards in discipline, compassion, and service.

According to Egbetokun, women now serve across all layers of policing, including operational, tactical, investigative, administrative, and strategic roles.

The IGP emphasized that the celebration of women in policing is not just a commemoration but a recognition of their resilience and contribution to national security.

“To every woman in the Nigerian Police Force, you are central to our identity. You are shaping the next chapter of policing in Nigeria,” he said, urging younger female officers to continue building on this legacy.

Egbetokun described the 70-year journey as a testament to the adaptability, commitment, and professionalism of Nigerian women, asserting that the force would continue to support and promote their participation at all levels.
