Jungle Justice: Four Suspects Arrested Over Kwara Chief Imam’s Death

Kwara State Police Command has arrested four suspects linked to the brutal killing of the Chief Imam of Sokunkpan village in Tsaragi, Edu Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Thursday, explaining that the tragic incident occurred on November 4, 2025, around 9:30 p.m. The attack followed the death of a 25-year-old man, Ibrahim Gana, who had been receiving treatment at a local hospital.

According to the police, after Ibrahim’s passing, his brothers, Mohammed Shaba and Mahmud Gana, accused the Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu, of being responsible for his death. The suspects reportedly mobilised a mob that attacked the cleric with dangerous weapons, leading to his death.

Ejire-Adeyemi said operatives acted swiftly to restore order and arrested four suspects, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend others involved. “The command has launched a full investigation into the incident, and justice will be served,” she assured.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, strongly condemned the killing, warning residents against taking the law into their own hands. He described the act as “barbaric and punishable under Nigerian law,” stressing that mob justice only leads to more tragedy and chaos.

“No one has the right to take another person’s life under any guise. The command will not tolerate any form of lawlessness, and anyone found guilty will face the full weight of the law,” Ojo stated.

He urged residents to remain calm and assist the police by providing credible information that could help the investigation. The CP also reassured the people of Kwara State of the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and security, especially in Edu LGA where the attack occurred.

“The Kwara State Police Command under my leadership will continue to uphold professionalism, integrity, and accountability in all its operations,” Ojo added.
