Nigeria’s Crude Oil Output Set to Surge as New Offshore Facility Nears Completion

Nigeria’s oil production is on track for a major boost as the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) announces the completion of a new Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, soon to be deployed to the nation’s offshore fields.

The Chief Executive of NUPRC, Gbenga Komolafe, expressed optimism during an inspection visit to Dubai Drydocks World in the United Arab Emirates, where the EMEM FPSO is undergoing final conversion for Oriental Energy Resources Limited. Once deployed to the Okwok Field, the vessel is expected to play a key role in ramping up the country’s crude oil output.

Komolafe, in a statement signed by the Commission’s Head of Media and Strategic Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu, said the development aligns with Nigeria’s “Project One Million Barrels” initiative, designed to increase national production by an additional one million barrels per day.

During a detailed four-hour inspection, the NUPRC team assessed critical sections of the vessel, including the oil and water treatment units, gas injection modules, turbines, control room, and accommodation quarters, to ensure full compliance and operational readiness.

Converted from the double-hulled crude tanker Nordic Mistral, the EMEM FPSO has a storage capacity of one million barrels and can process up to 40,000 barrels of oil per day. It also includes advanced systems for gas processing, water injection, and treatment, with accommodation for up to 100 personnel.
