LASG Launches Second Phase of Polio Vaccination to Protect Children Across Lagos

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has officially commenced the second round of its statewide polio vaccination campaign, targeting children aged 0–59 months.

This initiative is part of the ongoing Polio Outbreak Response (OBR) program, coordinated by the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, WHO, UNICEF, and other development partners.

The second phase runs from December 6 to December 9, 2025, following the detection of an orphan circulating Variant Poliovirus Type Two in Makoko, Lagos Mainland LGA. Vaccination teams will conduct outreach in homes, schools, markets, motor parks, places of worship, and other public spaces across all 20 local government areas and 37 LCDA to ensure no child is missed.

Dr. Ibrahim Mustafa, Permanent Secretary of the LSPHCB, urged parents, caregivers, and community leaders to cooperate fully with health workers to protect children and strengthen immunity against the poliovirus.

Each child will receive two drops of the NAFDAC- and WHO-approved Oral Polio Vaccine Type Two, regardless of previous immunization status.

This phase builds on the success of the initial November campaign and aims to fortify high-risk, densely populated communities, reinforcing LASG’s commitment to safeguarding child health across the state.
