Man Arrested Mid-Flight for Stealing ₦290,000 from Foreign Passenger on Abuja-Bound Plane

A dramatic scene unfolded aboard an Abuja-bound flight when a Nigerian man was caught stealing ₦290,000 from a foreign passenger, sparking outrage among travelers.

The incident was recounted by a Nigerian businesswoman, identified on social media as @ChiomaIfeanyieze, who was on the same flight. According to her, passengers had boarded and settled in, waiting for takeoff, when the foreign passenger an Oyinbo man suddenly realized his money was missing.

He immediately raised an alarm, telling the flight crew that his bag had been moved from its original position in the overhead compartment. A fellow passenger then stepped in, claiming she saw another man earlier take the bag and shift it to another section of the plane.

Despite denying the accusation, the suspect’s behavior raised suspicion, prompting a search by the flight attendants. To everyone’s shock, the missing ₦290,000 was discovered tucked beneath the suspect’s seat.

The discovery caused a brief commotion on board, delaying takeoff for nearly 20 minutes as airport security was called in to apprehend the man. Upon inspection of his luggage, officials found only a single shirt and no other belongings further raising questions about his intentions.

The eyewitness, Chioma, expressed her embarrassment over the incident, noting that if not for the woman who spoke up, the foreign passenger might have left with the wrong impression that all Nigerians were dishonest.

She urged Nigerians to always uphold integrity, especially in public spaces, to protect the nation’s image before the international community.
