PDP Blasts APC, Says Nigeria Was Africa’s Top Economy Before Power Change in 2015

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming that Nigeria was the leading economy in Africa and the continent’s top destination for foreign investment before it handed over power in 2015.

Speaking during a media session on Wednesday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, accused the APC of plunging the country into economic hardship and reversing the gains achieved under the previous PDP administration.

According to Ologunagba, Nigeria enjoyed steady economic growth, international investor confidence, and democratic stability during the PDP’s tenure all of which, he said, have deteriorated in the last decade under APC rule.

“We had an economy that was number one in Africa, valued at over $600 billion when we left office in 2015,” Ologunagba stated.
“Nigeria was also the leading destination for foreign capital investment, but the APC’s mismanagement has rolled back those achievements.”

He further accused the ruling party of failing to uphold good governance, transparency, and accountability, adding that Nigerians are now reflecting on the comparative difference between both administrations.

The PDP spokesperson emphasized that the opposition party remains committed to democratic values, rule of law, and national unity. He also noted that the party’s upcoming national convention would demonstrate its internal democracy and readiness to rebuild the nation’s economy.

“Nigerians have seen the APC’s performance over the last ten years and can now judge which party truly prioritizes the welfare of the people,” Ologunagba concluded.

The PDP’s remarks come amid growing political tensions and calls from opposition figures for a national economic recovery plan ahead of the 2027 elections.
