MTN Foundation Rewards Excellence with ₦300,000 Scholarships for 368 Students
The MTN Foundation has awarded 368 outstanding Nigerian students annual scholarships worth ₦300,000 each, recognising exceptional academic performance and resilience across the country’s tertiary institutions.
The beneficiaries include top scorers in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), visually impaired candidates, and high-achieving undergraduates from public universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
The awards, presented at the 2025 Scholarship Award and Alumni Induction Ceremony held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, also marked the induction of new recipients into the MTN Foundation alumni network.
Established in 2010, the MTN Foundation Scholarship Scheme is one of Nigeria’s leading private-sector education support initiatives, aimed at empowering brilliant students and easing financial barriers to learning.
Representing the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, the Director of E-Governance, Johnson Bareiye, commended MTN for its sustained investment in education, describing the initiative as a model for private-sector participation in national development.
“This ceremony stands as a reminder of what’s possible when the private sector invests meaningfully in the nation’s future.
We commend the MTN Foundation for its commitment to empowering young Nigerians through education and digital skills,” he said.
“With over 14,000 scholarships awarded to date, MTN Foundation’s commitment to a knowledge-driven Nigeria is evident.
We are particularly excited about the Skills Academy initiative, which will expose corps members to globally recognised digital courses,” Eze said.
In her remarks, the Executive Director of MTN Foundation, Odunayo Sanya, said the scholarship scheme celebrates excellence, resilience, and purpose.
“We believe talent exists everywhere. Our mission is to ensure that no brilliant mind is left behind. We encourage scholars to sustain excellence because this opportunity rewards consistency,” she stated.
During the ceremony, the scholars received real-time credit alerts of their ₦300,000 annual grants while being presented with their award certificates.
Representing the 2025 awardees, Olatunji Aishat expressed gratitude to the Foundation, noting that the programme extends beyond financial aid. “This scholarship is more than just funding; it inspires us to aim higher and contribute meaningfully to society,” she said.
