Okpebholo Reveals Personal Purchase of Office Chair After Obaseki’s Departure.

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, disclosed that he had to use his own funds to buy an office chair after his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, left with the one inscribed with Nigeria’s Coat of Arms.

In an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Okpebholo stated that although he wouldn’t personally investigate Obaseki’s administration, he believed the system would eventually look into financial issues and work to recover any misappropriated funds. “I’m not the one probing them.

The system will probe them. A significant amount of money is tied to various issues, and those funds will surface in due time. I will not conceal anything,” he asserted.

Having been elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in September 2024, Okpebholo won with 291,667 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who received 247,655 votes. Reflecting on his initial days in office, Okpebholo mentioned the necessity of purchasing his own chair due to Obaseki taking the official one.

“I had to spend my own money for my seat. Obaseki took his chair, the one with the Nigerian Coat of Arms. If he can take a chair, what else could he take?” he asked.

The governor attributed his electoral victory to divine support, declaring that he would prevail in future contests, even in 20 years.

“Edo people made their voices heard. We desired a change. Even in two decades, I will win.

When I ran for Senate, I faced a sitting senator along with numerous challenges, such as lack of water, electricity, roads, and supplies. Yet, we triumphed against the odds,” he remarked.
