PDP Leaders Vow Legal Action to Reclaim ‘Stolen Mandate’ in Edo Election, Urging Supporters to Stay Peaceful

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including state chairman Anthony Aziegbemi, have announced their intention to take legal action following the recent Edo State governorship election results. The PDP claims their candidate, Asue Ighodalo, was unjustly denied victory and has vowed to present overwhelming evidence to reclaim what they describe as their “stolen mandate.
During a recent protest at the office in Benin City, Aziegbemi urged supporters to remain peaceful and patient as they await judicial proceedings.

We are confident that the overwhelming evidence we will present will help recover our mandate,” he stated, emphasizing the party’s commitment to a non-violent approach. The protest was marked by placards demanding that INEC reverse its declaration of Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner.

The PDP alleges that the election results were manipulated in favor of Okpebholo, who reportedly received 291,667 votes compared to Ighodalo’s 247,274.
Aziegbemi expressed faith in the integrity of the election tribunal, asserting that it would review the evidence impartially and recognize that Ighodalo rightfully won the election.

He criticized INEC for its handling of the electoral process and called for accountability among electoral officials. In response to the PDP’s claims, APC officials have dismissed the allegations, stating that any disputes should be settled through legal channels rather than protests. They maintain that the election results reflect the true will of the electorate. As tensions rise in Edo State politics, both parties are preparing for potential legal battles over the election outcome, with the PDP determined to pursue their grievances through judicial means.
