PDP Won’t Be Coerced into Ambiguous Coalition, Says Sowunmi.

In response to the push by the anti-Tinubu coalition, spearheaded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to unite against the President in the upcoming 2027 Presidential election, PDP chieftain Mr. Segun Sowunmi declared that the party will not be driven into an unclear coalition.

This statement coincides with remarks by lawmaker Mr. Clement Jimbo, who referred to Atiku’s coalition efforts as a futile endeavor.

Sowunmi, speaking as the convener of The Alternative during a TVC interview, emphasized that while individuals can seek political alliances, political parties like the PDP require clear and respectful dialogues surrounding any collaboration.

He expressed, “Anyone proposing a coalition must distinguish between individuals and parties. For a political party, one of the fundamental questions is, ‘What is the basis for this alliance?’

Sowunmi elaborated on the PDP’s historical significance, emphasizing its commitment to being a pan-Nigerian party that accommodates the nation’s diversity while following zoning principles.

He made it clear that the PDP will not be easily swayed into arrangements without understanding the motivations behind them.

He questioned whether the PDP should diminish its political structure to merge with parties lacking substantial frameworks, pointing out the existing strength of the party’s governors and legislators.
