Ruben Amorim Under Fire as Manchester United Struggles with Poor Form and Criticism

January 28, 2025 – Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is under intense scrutiny following a series of disappointing performances, including a recent 3-1 defeat to Brighton.

This loss has left the club languishing in 13th place in the Premier League, prompting Amorim to describe the current state of the team as maybe the worst in the club’s history.

In his post-match press conference after the defeat on January 21, Amorim did not hold back, stating, We are being the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United.

His blunt assessment has drawn significant backlash from pundits and fans alike, with former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher labeling his comments as bizarre and ridiculous.

Carragher expressed disbelief at Amorim’s choice of words, suggesting they could backfire and further demoralize the already struggling squad.

Since taking over from Erik ten Hag in November, Amorim has struggled to turn around a team that has suffered six home league defeats this season—the most since the 1893-94 campaign.

The club has only managed to secure 11 points from 11 Premier League matches, raising concerns about their trajectory under the young coach.
Amorim acknowledged that his team is feeling the pressure, stating, “Our players are really nervous in actions. When you go on the pitch, you remember the last games here.” He emphasized that improvement is necessary as they prepare for upcoming matches.

Critics have pointed to a muddled recruitment strategy that has left United with an unbalanced squad. High-profile signings like Harry Maguire, Rasmus Hojlund, and Antony have failed to deliver consistent performances, exacerbating the team’s woes.

Former assistant manager Rene Meulensteen criticized Amorim for his lack of discretion in making such sweeping statements about his players.

Despite the ongoing challenges, Amorim remains determined to address the issues head-on. He is set to lead his team into their next match against Fulham on January 28, where a much-needed victory could provide a morale boost amid mounting pressure.

As Manchester United navigates this tumultuous period, all eyes will be on Amorim to see if he can rally his players and restore some semblance of stability to a club that has seen better days.
