“The Broom Has Scattered”—Dr. Nwoye Dumps APC in Enugu

The former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ben Nwoye, has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress. Dr. Nwoye made this known on Thursday through a membership resignation letter, which he sent to the ward chairman of Amurri ward, in Nkanu West local government area of Enugu State, which was sited by newsmen.

He stated that his resignation is as a result of the disintegration of the leadership of the party in Enugu State, as the broom which was painstakingly tied together in 2013, when party members were called unprintable names, has loosened and permanently scattered.

Dr. Nwoye, a founding member and face of the party in Enugu state, expressed deep disappointment over what he described as the collapse of internal cohesion and respect for party hierarchy. He lamented that the ideals that once held the party together have been sacrificed on the altar of personal interests and factional dominance.

In his words, “I can no longer continue to be part of a structure where loyalty is punished and mediocrity is celebrated. The energy, time, and sacrifice we invested to build a formidable political platform have been eroded by unending power tussles and deliberate exclusion.”

He further noted that the party has lost its appeal among the people due to what he termed as persistent internal strife and lack of direction. Dr. Nwoye revealed that his decision to step away was not taken lightly but became inevitable after numerous failed attempts to broker peace and foster unity within the ranks.

While expressing gratitude to genuine party faithful who worked tirelessly over the years, he hinted that his journey in politics is far from over. “This is only a new chapter. I remain available to support any political structure that aligns with the collective interest of the people, where progress and fairness are not just preached but practiced,” he concluded.
