Tinubu Mocks Opposition, Says Only “Empty Vessels” Remain as Defections to APC Continue

President Bola Tinubu has described Nigeria’s opposition parties, including various coalition groups, as effectively defunct, claiming that only “empty vessels” remain within their ranks.

Speaking at the APC National Summit themed “Renewed Hope Agenda: The Journey So Far,” Tinubu expressed confidence in further defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying all willing new members are welcome.

Citing Section 41(1) of the 1999 Constitution, he emphasized that political defection is a constitutional right.

His comments follow recent high-profile defections from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

At the summit, all 22 APC governors under the Progressives Governors’ Forum reaffirmed their support for Tinubu by passing a vote of confidence in his leadership.
