The ambush targeted a convoy of government-backed fighters from the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, who were returning from a condolence visit when they were attacked around 4:30 PM.

Local security officials reported that the attackers overwhelmed the convoy, killing 17 people on the spot and subsequently setting ablaze the corpses of 11 others. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the bandits ransacked homes and shops, further exacerbating fears among residents.

They came into this community in large numbers and pillaged house by house, a local security source stated, adding that over 20 individuals remain unaccounted for.

The Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed that 21 individuals were “fatally shot” during the attack. He noted that police operatives quickly responded to restore normalcy in the area but lamented the tragic loss of life.

Efforts are currently underway to locate the missing persons, with police and community security forces collaborating to restore peace in Baure Village. Local officials have emphasized the need for enhanced security measures to protect vulnerable communities from such violent incursions.
